Q: How often should I clean my bird feeder?

A: All seed bird feeders should be be cleaned every 3-4 weeks! All you have to do is soak it in 1/10 bleach solution for a least 15 min, and that will take care of all the harmful bacteria.

Q: Does this feeder have to be hung on a pole? If I hang it off the deck with a short hook, will squirrels still reach into the ports?

A: I don’t have this model. I have the squirrel buster mini. It is about the same length. It is on a pole, but it only sits 12 inches above the railing. I thought that they might be able to reach, but even the larger squirrel that used to come cannot stretch enough. He tries to pull it down and is foiled. Mine also does not extend the recommended 15-18 inches out from the pole either only about 6 to 8 inches. With other feeders the squirrel would try to hand on the pole and pull toward them, but this one is still too far away. The large squirrel we had last year and this year gave up after two weeks when we got this one. We have since had two baby squirrels just as equally frustrated with it. They’ve tried pulling it down, climbing the pole and lowering down onto it and chewing at it. Now, they come for water and pick up a few seeds that fall to the deck.
